- Q. I have large open pores, what causes this and what is the best treatment.
A. Oiler skins will always have more visible pores as they secrete more oil thru the follicle but there are definitely things you should consider if your pores look larger than normal. Firstly you should be exfoliating regularly to reduce any build up inside the follicle as this buildup of sebum & dead skin cells can make pores appear larger. Secondly it’s important not to strip the skin of its natural oils with astringent cleansers or toners as this can dehydrate skin and cause a condition called reactive seborrhoea which is when the oil gland has been stripped of its natural oils so it goes into overdrive & produces even more sebum than normal to compensate, which again can make pores appear larger than normal. So if you are concerned with enlarged pores keep skin well exfoliated and hydrated, try treatments such as microdermabrasion and peels to exfoliate and refine skin. Best to consult a skin care therapist to advise you on how to achieve the desired results.
- Q. Is there anything I can do about my acne scarring?
A. Fortunately there a lot of great treatments to help improve scarring. If your scarring is still pink or purple it’s steal healing so this kind of scarring is the easiest to treat. A professional skin therapist can guide you depending on the severity whether IPL, peels or collagen induction therapy would achieve the best results. Older scarring is the hardest to treat, when it has lost the pink purple tinge there are few treatments that can truly improve it. Collagen induction/skin needling can achieve amazing results when performed correctly on older scarring, a course of treatment is required as is the use of at home professional cosmeceutical grade Skincare products. It is a relatively new treatment that requires knowledge & skill so be sure too seek out a very experienced practitioner.
- Q. What can I do about my freckles & pigmentation?
A. The most important thing to do is wear a really good physical sunscreen to reduce & prevent any further sun-damage. Most people don’t realise that most chemical sunscreens even if 30+ will still let you colour thru them. Physical sunscreens actually block the rays & deflect them, where as a chemical sunscreen will let the rays penetrate the skin before diffusing them. It is important to exfoliate the skin to bring pigment to the surface so that it is more easily treated and the use of a serum containing a tyrosinase inhibitor to stop further melanin production & reduce melanin that is present, is essential . It is also a good idea to use vitamin b topically as it treats inflammation which can play a major part in pigmentation of the skin. There are also many effective treatments that can treat pigmentation such as Peels, IPL & Collagen induction Therapy the results will depend on the depth of the pigment present. Best results are achieved with a customised skin care regime and in salon treatments.
- Q. Is it too late to treat ageing in my 50’s?
A. It’s never to late to treat your skin for ageing, there is some very effective noninvasive treatments available to clients of any age. We often have many clients who believe it is too late to do anything about the signs of ageing once they are visible on the skin, what they don’t realise is that with a cosmeceutical strength Skincare regime and an intensive in salon program we can achieve quite dramatic results without having to turn to cosmetic surgery. Results are monitored by before & after photos. Different concerns require different treatments & skin care regimes so it is best too speak to an experienced skin therapist too discuss the best program and expected outcome.
